It seems that a spell of bad weather is here to stay and we are already starting to see some of the problems in homes that bad weather causes.
From our experiences last year with properties please do check the following:
Oil
Prices have been soaring and many companies cannot deliver until late January plus there are bound to be further delays if the weather gets worse. Please do check levels continually the houses will also be burning far more than usual, plus the heating may be coming on through the frost thermostat all day.
Aga’s
Related to oil levels please do not turn Aga down too low if the Oil levels are down.
Pipes
Obviously a concern at this time of year. If you are leaving the property closed for any period of time then please leave the heating ticking over to prevent freezing.
It is also worth draining outside taps if very severe weather is forecast.
Gutters
The weight of snow caused a lot of damage to gutters last year. It is worth checking that they are secure and clear.
Snow damage
We did get some reports of trees and shrubs being damaged by the weight of snow. Although the snow can be considered a protective blanket to severe frost too much weight is damaging and it is worth clearing if the snow continues.
Likewise it is worth checking that there is not too much snow accumulating on low boughs near a property.
Again if you have any problems please do not hesitate to contact us here at the office on 02392 632 275 or out of hours 07824 467518
